Motorola and Bang & Olufsen announced a global, multi-year partnership on September 21, 2026, focused on bringing the “Audio by Bang & Olufsen” experience to Motorola’s premium device range. The agreement sets a direction for future launches, but it is not yet tied to a specific phone.

A partnership built into future devices

Some future high-end Motorola devices will feature sound tuned by Bang & Olufsen acoustic engineers. Motorola says the collaboration will cover audio technologies, sound modes, new user experiences and a broader ecosystem planned for upcoming products.

That scope makes the agreement broader than adding an audio brand to a single handset. Motorola describes it as a collaboration between its mobile innovation, design and personal-expression work and Bang & Olufsen’s audio and design expertise. The practical result, however, will depend on how the companies apply that work to individual models.

Under the “Audio by Bang & Olufsen” programme, the Danish company’s acoustic engineers work with partners to define, test and refine the sound of each model and product format. This indicates that tuning may be developed for each device rather than applied as a single preset across Motorola’s range. The announcement does not provide technical specifications or audio results for any particular phone.

The first phone has not been announced

Motorola says the partnership will roll out over the coming months and that more announcements are planned. It has not identified the first compatible device, a launch date, pricing, markets or whether existing Motorola phones will receive any related update.

For people considering a future high-end Motorola phone, the immediate change is the company’s stated approach to premium mobile audio. Bang & Olufsen engineers are expected to help shape the listening experience on selected devices, but there is not yet enough information to judge the effect on sound quality, features or availability. Those details will need to be assessed model by model once Motorola names the products involved.

What both companies say

Bang & Olufsen was founded in Struer, Denmark, by Peter Bang and Svend Olufsen. The company says it employs about 1,100 people, operates in more than 70 markets and is listed on Nasdaq Copenhagen A/S.

Motorola’s Ruben Castano, vice president of Design, Brand and Customer Experiences, says the collaboration is intended to make sound more intentional in the Motorola experience. Duncan McCue, Bang & Olufsen’s vice president of Business Development & Strategic Partnerships, says the company wants to bring its expertise to Motorola’s high-end devices and rethink smartphone audio.

The partnership itself is confirmed, while the product timetable is not. Until the next announcements, “Audio by Bang & Olufsen” describes a planned direction for selected future Motorola devices rather than a feature currently attached to a named phone.
