Samsung to Bring Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and #PlayGalaxy Cup to Gamescom 2026
Samsung will connect its Galaxy smartphone gaming programme with a wider PC and console showcase at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne.
Samsung has announced plans to make mobile gaming a central part of its Gamescom 2026 presence, combining Galaxy smartphones with a broader showcase covering PC and console play. The event will take place at Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany, from August 26 to 30, with Samsung presenting its programme under the #PlaySamsung slogan.
According to Samsung's official announcement, the company wants visitors to experience a connected gaming line-up across several platforms rather than viewing smartphones, monitors and storage products as separate categories. The display will include the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Odyssey G8 gaming monitor and 9100 PRO SSD.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra takes the mobile spotlight
The smartphone focus will centre on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which Samsung describes as its flagship mobile device for the event. Visitors will be able to see how Samsung positions the foldable within a wider gaming ecosystem that also includes PC hardware and console-style experiences.
The announcement does not introduce a new Galaxy phone or disclose new pricing and availability information. Instead, it sets out how Samsung plans to demonstrate products that have already been announced, with gaming performance and the surrounding community placed at the heart of the presentation.
That distinction matters. A trade-show announcement can show how a manufacturer wants its hardware to be used, but it does not replace independent testing. Samsung will also host the world finals of the #PlayGalaxy Cup on August 27 and 28. The tournament is described as a global league designed around Galaxy smartphone gaming. Ten teams that progressed through five regional qualifiers will compete for the championship, representing North America, Latin America, Europe, Southeast Asia and Southwest Asia.
The finals will begin with a special three-player match in PUBG Mobile featuring global video-game influencers. Samsung has not identified the participants in the announcement, so there is no confirmed line-up to report yet. The structure nevertheless gives the mobile part of the show a competitive element, rather than limiting it to static product demonstrations.
For visitors and viewers, the tournament provides a clearer way to understand Samsung's mobile gaming message. The company is presenting Galaxy devices not only as screens for playing games, but also as part of an ecosystem involving players, influencers and organised competition. Samsung's wider gaming hardware at Gamescom
The PC side of the showcase will feature Samsung's Odyssey G8, which the company calls the world's first 6K gaming monitor. Samsung says the monitor, launched in May 2026, can switch between a 6K mode running at 165Hz and a 3K mode running at 330Hz. It also supports G-SYNC compatibility and AMD FreeSync Premium, according to the announcement.
Visitors will be able to experience Pearl Abyss's open-world action-adventure game Crimson Desert on the Odyssey G8's 6K display with HDR10+ GAMING features. Samsung also plans to show games from the Sonic series and include its 9100 PRO SSD in the exhibition. Those products broaden the presentation beyond phones, while keeping the underlying theme of gaming performance across different types of hardware.
The company also plans a cosplay runway built around its product experiences. Samsung says Gamescom attracted 360,000 visitors in the previous year and includes approximately 1,500 software, hardware and game-content companies. Those figures explain why the event is useful for a manufacturer seeking to demonstrate several product categories in one place, although they do not indicate how many visitors will attend Samsung's booth.
What to watch when the event opens
The most concrete dates are the main exhibition from August 26 to 30 and the #PlayGalaxy Cup world finals on August 27 and 28. Samsung has not announced additional technical test results, retail changes or new smartphone specifications in this Gamescom release.
