HUAWEI XMAGE Awards 2026 enter final days as smartphone photo deadline nears
HUAWEI’s XMAGE Awards 2026 remain open through August 16, with nine categories, 100 selected works and a My HUAWEI submission feature for mobile photographers.
The HUAWEI XMAGE Awards 2026 are approaching their submission deadline, giving mobile photographers only a short window to enter this year’s global competition. HUAWEI opened submissions on March 23 and says entries will remain open until August 16, 2026, at 24:00 Beijing Time (GMT+8). The company plans to announce the winners in November.
The awards are built around smartphone photography and video rather than a new device launch. HUAWEI describes XMAGE as its dedicated imaging brand and presents the competition as a platform for photographs and videos captured on Huawei devices. The 2026 edition is the tenth XMAGE Awards, according to the company’s announcement.
Nine categories cover everyday and experimental photography
This year’s competition is divided into nine categories, ranging from traditional mobile photography themes to formats that impose a specific creative challenge. So Far So Close focuses on framing distant subjects and subtle details, while Colour & Shade asks photographers to build a story through colour and tone. Good Night is dedicated to low-light scenes, and Active Moments is aimed at movement and energetic moments.
Faces centres on portraiture and personal stories. A Heartwarming World looks for gentle, intimate moments, while Experimental Lab invites entrants to break conventional visual rules. The remaining two categories are more structured: Storyboard requires a narrative told through three to nine photographs, and Action asks participants to create a visual story within ten minutes.
That structure makes the competition relevant to different types of smartphone creators. A single carefully composed image can fit several of the photographic categories, while Storyboard gives mobile photographers a way to work with sequence and continuity. Action, by contrast, puts the emphasis on reacting quickly and shaping a narrative under a fixed time limit. Entrants should choose the category that matches the work they already have, rather than changing an image simply to force it into a theme.
What the selected photographers can receive
HUAWEI says 100 works will be selected for the 2026 awards. Three Grand Prize winners are listed, each with a USD 10,000 XMAGE creation fund and an electronic certificate. A further 97 works are included in the XMAGE 100 selection, with each receiving a USD 1,500 creation fund and an electronic certificate.
The official competition page calls these amounts creation funds and states that they are pre-tax. It also notes that the organiser reserves the right to modify the number of winners. That qualification matters: the published figures describe the current award structure, but they are not presented as an independently audited prize guarantee.
Submission routes include the My HUAWEI app
HUAWEI lists several ways to enter, including the official XMAGE website, the My HUAWEI app, VMALL, HUAWEI Community, Instagram, Tuchong and 500px. Huawei smartphone users can also use a one-tap post feature from the gallery in the My HUAWEI app, according to the company’s announcement.
The official XMAGE page presents a country and region selector before the submission flow. Anyone preparing an entry should therefore check the current rules and regional requirements on the official portal before uploading. The announcement confirms the deadline and available channels, but the precise entry conditions, permissions and technical requirements should be taken from the competition rules that apply to the entrant’s location.
As with any public photography submission, creators should also make sure they have the necessary rights to the image, permission from identifiable people where required, and consent for any location or property that may be subject to restrictions. Those are practical checks for entrants, not additional claims about HUAWEI’s rules.
A jury drawn from photography and media
The listed jury includes Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Liu Heung Shing, Xinhua News Agency editor and imaging researcher Chen Xiaobo, and Florence Bourgeois, director of Paris Photo. The panel also includes Cao Ting, dean of the School of Visual Media and Communication at Beijing Film Academy; Fabrice Laroche, editor-in-chief of Fisheye; photographer and documentary director Dai Xianjing; and Li Changzhu, brand director of HUAWEI XMAGE.
HUAWEI says its mobile photography programme has attracted submissions from more than 170 countries and regions since it began in 2017, with nearly six million submissions to date. Those figures are company-reported, but they show the scale HUAWEI is aiming for with the awards and explain why the 2026 call is positioned as a global competition rather than a regional phone promotion.
For photographers who already have eligible work, the immediate fact is the closing date: August 16 at 24:00 Beijing Time. The official XMAGE Awards page remains the reference point for the active submission route, regional rules and the final terms. HUAWEI’s published schedule places the winners’ announcement in November 2026.
