Samsung Galaxy A27 5G adds longer support and new AI tools
Samsung’s Galaxy A27 5G brings a 120Hz display, expanded AI features and up to six generations of Android upgrades to its latest A-series phone.
Samsung has announced the Galaxy A27 5G, a new addition to its Galaxy A series that combines a large 120Hz display with a broader set of built-in AI tools and a longer software-support commitment. The phone is scheduled to become available from July 3 in select markets, although Samsung says colours, configurations and availability may vary by country.
A larger 120Hz display and familiar hardware
The Galaxy A27 5G uses a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Samsung says the upgraded Infinity-O design reduces the visible camera area through a smaller punch-hole cut-out and uses a more balanced bezel layout. The device measures 7.8mm thick and weighs 200g, according to the company’s published specifications.
Processing is handled by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 Mobile Platform. Samsung says the platform brings improved graphics performance for activities such as gaming and streaming, alongside faster memory and improved power efficiency. Those are manufacturer claims rather than independent test results, so real-world performance will depend on software, network conditions and usage.
The rear camera system combines a 50-megapixel wide camera with optical image stabilisation, a 5-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 2-megapixel macro camera. A 12-megapixel front camera is included for selfies and video calls. Samsung also lists a 5,000mAh typical battery capacity and 25W wired charging, while noting that actual battery life varies with network environment and usage patterns.
AI features move further down Samsung’s range
The most notable part of the announcement is Samsung’s attempt to make its “Awesome Intelligence” feature set available on a more accessible Galaxy device. Circle to Search with Google can recognise multiple objects in one image, allowing users to search for several items at once. Samsung also says the feature can support virtual try-ons directly from search results, subject to compatible languages, accounts and services.
Object Eraser is also being updated to remove unwanted elements from photos with more precise results. In Samsung’s Voice Recorder app, Voice Transcription can translate while it transcribes, with support for 22 languages listed in the launch information. These tools require the relevant software, accounts or network access, and Samsung warns that feature availability can vary by region and device configuration.
The phone supports Google Gemini and Perplexity as assistant options, while Bixby can act as a conversational device agent for controlling settings and features through natural-language requests. That makes the A27 5G part of Samsung’s wider effort to bring assistant-style interactions beyond flagship models. It does not, however, mean that every AI feature available on Samsung’s premium phones will necessarily be present here.
Longer support is the bigger practical change
Samsung says the Galaxy A27 5G will receive up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades, together with up to six years of security updates from the initial global launch date. The wording is important: “up to” indicates the maximum support promise, while the exact schedule and feature set can depend on market, carrier and software conditions.
Security is handled through Samsung Knox and Knox Vault, with the company describing the system as hardware-backed protection for sensitive data. Samsung’s own notes also explain that Knox Vault capabilities on Galaxy A-series phones may differ from those on flagship Galaxy S and Z devices. Buyers should therefore check the support and security details for the exact regional model before making a purchase decision.
Storage options announced for the U.K. include 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage, 8GB with 128GB, and 8GB with 256GB, with microSD expansion listed up to 2TB. Samsung says memory and storage configurations may vary by market. The phone is also rated IP64 under laboratory conditions, but the company warns that water and dust resistance is not permanent and that the device is not recommended for beach or pool use.
What the announcement means
The Galaxy A27 5G is not presented as a radical redesign. Its significance is more practical: Samsung is combining a high-refresh-rate AMOLED screen, mainstream 5G hardware and a growing group of AI features with a support policy that could keep the device current for several years. That combination may matter more to everyday buyers than a headline camera specification or a short-term performance claim.
There is still no price in Samsung’s announcement, and the company has not given one universal availability list. Those details will need to be confirmed locally before purchase. For now, the Galaxy A27 5G is best understood as Samsung’s latest attempt to extend its software, security and AI strategy beyond its flagship phones.
